Of
goddesses and asses
The exclusive product line took its name from Titania, Shakespeare‚s
queen of the fairies in A Midsummer Night‚s Dream. Her husband,
King Oberon, casts a spell on her causing her to fall in love with
a bumbling weaver whom Oberon has also given a donkey’s head.
Since ancient times the donkey has been a symbol of masculinity
and fertility. However, it takes a woman to cultivate the rough
vitality of a man. Titania is similar to Diana in Ovid’s Metamorphoses,
which inspired Shakespeare to write his play. Diana, the Roman goddess
of the moon, was the twin sister of Apollo, god of the sun.
